The Scientific Temper : An Anthology of Stories on Matters of Science

To : Contents Pages

Over the past five decades I've encountered hundreds of science editors or journalists. One person who has performed both functions is my close friend, Anthony R. Michaelis, who has now reached his 90th anniversary.  During a visit to Heidelberg he related to me the unfortunate story of the demise of the publisher of his autobiography "The Scientific Temper : An Anthology of Stories on Matters of Science".  Since Anthony was concerned that this work would not be adequately disseminated, it occurred to me that we could publish it on the Web.

It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge my old friend in this way.  I believe this is the only autobiography published by a science journalist since the work of  J.G. Crowther, three decades ago.

I  am confident that journalists and others will find these pages compelling and delightful reading as did I.

Since this note was posted in 2006 Dr. Michaelis passed away on 18 October 2007 in Heidelberg.
