After Trader Horn, there came a need to see animals. Dad took us to the zoo but this was not enough. It would hve been fun to sketch them but I didn't know how. Dad promised to teach me how to draw birds. At that time, my interest was in elephants and giraffes like in the movie. There weren't any books available then. Had there been, would dad or mom have bought them? Dad's education was stopped in the 7th grade when he broke his back. Mom made it to the 3rd grade in Nicaragua, then refused to go to school in San Francisco. They were not interested in books. Whether or not I saw them, I thought a lot about animals with intentions of someday make a jungle film.
